Self Guided Hunt

What our satisfied clients have said:

People if you truly want to hunt Alaska don’t put it off. We are not guaranteed we will see tomorrow. Not a better hunt out there or a better price than with Kent Kaiser . I guided for 22 years out west and men paid more to come hunt Wyoming and Colorado than what Kent can put you in what I consider some of Gods finest work, Alaska. You make payments on everything else even if you have to borrow money and go we are not getting any younger. You will never be sorry or regret doing it. And no I’m not a paid person from Kent, I just truly believe he is a man after Gods own heart. Thank Kent for making so many people of all ages dreams come true.

My names Jason Farley, I am a outdoors fanatic. Ive dreamed of going on a Alaskan Yukon moose since I was a little kid. Watching them on my favorite show wild America. So when I decided it was time to go on this adventure in 2015 I didn't know were to turn! So I did a ton of research and everything brought me to Alaskan Quest with Kent Kaiser. I called Kent several time to ask him many questions and he was more then willing to share his knowledge with me and my buddy as we got to know Kent more and more and described what we wanted for a hunt and the time frame we wanted he said he had the best area for a drop in camp know one has been to before. That was just what me and my buddy wanted. The best part about Kent is after all his help you can still customize everything yourself as in location to be dropped in.

The months leading up to this trip of a life time seem to take forever for me and my buddy. As we kept in contact with Kent it seemed like weekly to get advice on gear to bring and Kent always answered the phone or called us right back. When the day finally came I couldn't explain the feeling I had that a life long dream was finally coming true. As we arrived in Fairbanks Kent called the following day to make sure me made it and where to go to get the rest of our gear and food. My buddy and I planned for a 20 day trip in the wild. The excitement was insane not knowing what was going to happen for the next few weeks was a feeling I've never felt before.

We got dropped where we thought would give us the best odds of seeing moose. We set up  camp and cut firewood that would last us for days. The excitement grew knowing tomorrow was opening day and I was in bliss. Day one of hunting was more of  scouting and making trails in and out to the best scouting spot. Day 2  and 3 we didn't see any moose and started to question our plan of attack. Let me just say you need to be mentally  and physically prepared. Day 4 came with still high hopes as we have been calling from our look out and also from camp. As my buddy and I parted ways for the evening hunt we both said good luck to each other but I had no idea that evening sit would of changed my life in ways I can't describe. As I was glassing all around I found myself reflecting on life and enjoying the beautiful landscape when I saw horns coming over the hill. I could not believe it. I didn't think twice and next thing I know I am running towards the moose to cut the distance. As I got to where I wanted to be watching this amazing huge animal make his way closer and closer my heart was racing. As the bull got closer I saw 5 brows on the one side and at that point I started to shake uncontrollably. I waited for him to turn broad side and fired my first shot and to watch a animal of that size rear up and just tip over was amazing. I walked over to my ALASKAN Yukon moose and I couldn't speak. It is a feeling and a hunt I will remember the rest of my life!!! He was an old monster bull making Boone and Crockett with a amazing 64" spread!!

As it was getting dark I decided to head back to camp to meet my buddy to tell him what i just did. I wanted to mess with him so bad as friends do, but I couldn't keep the smile off my face as he told me he heard me shoot. A true friend is someone that gets just as excited for you to kill a trophy as they would them self and my buddy Kenny started screaming "we did it!! We did it!!
As we woke up the next morning and packed for the day of packing out my moose Kenny was pumping water at the lake as he comings running to the tent saying " Moose, moose at the lake" and he grabbed his gun as I grabbed the camera.  We looked to see if the bull was legal and sure enough he was. Kenny pared down and made an amazing shot but was unsure if he hit it. As we walked to where the moose was standing there was no blood and no hair so I began to search. I said to my buddy "I found him" but I was just messing with him and the look on his face was priceless. As we continued to search I could smell the moose so I walked over a hill and there he was!! I told Kenny I found him he had a few choice words for me if I was joking again. Then he came up the hill and seen his bull and he dropped to his knees and said " this is for you dad". At that time Kenny's father was dying of cancer. Kenny's bull made Boone and Crockett also with a 62" spread!!  We called Kent and told him what we both did and you could hear the excitement in his voice for us!!

Kenny and I plan on returning to Alaska in 2019 to hopefully relive a dream!!! Thanks to Kent Kaiser for everything he did for us it is something  I will never forget. And a huge huge thank you Kent for not just  seeing us as clients, but as friends, and being there for us every step of the way.

With a simple phone call and several months of planning , Jason and I found ourselves in the fall of 2017,standing on the banks of an Alaska river,100s of miles from Civilization with a pile of camping gear beside us  and the sound of our float plane getting farther and farther away, that’s the moment I realized our lifetime dream hunt was becoming a reality.

It would be an almost impossible feet to plane and execute the trip and success that we experienced with out the help of Kent Kaiser  the owner of Alaskan Quest.

If you let Kent do his job and you do yours, I can assure you an experience of a lifetime.

There’s no way to explain the feeling I had at that moment. The quietness, the smell of the wilderness, the idea of knowing we were far from anyone else was just beyond anything I have ever felt.

Knowing we only had about 6 hours or so to get the raft aired up and get on down the river to our first night camp ,we went to Work.  We woke the next morning to the sight a huge bull moose walking across the ridge line. We were so excited, for that was the first bull either of us had ever seen in the wild, and it was only the first morning!!
As the two of us were trying to navigate our raft down the river we found out neither of us knew beans about driving a raft with those long Oar’s. So we did what any redneck would do, we improvised. By shortening the Oar’s we now had Arkansas boat paddles, so as each of us sit on the side of the raft as  we continued down the river. We spotted a few more cows and some calves as we floated along. After stopping a few times on some sandbars looking and calling we headed on down river. It was later in the afternoon as we came around a big bend in the river we could hear what sounded like and 18 wheeler breaking through the willows. We immediately tied our raft up on the bluff side of the river so we could see across to the willow thicket. This is when it got really exciting As the trashing and breaking of trees and limbs continued, we decided it had to be a bull showing its dominants on a willow tree. There was a cow and a calf just down the river watching us so we were careful not to move around to much. As the thrashing continued, I can’t explain the excitement we were feeling, weather it was the calling we did or just our patients in sitting there. all of a sudden the trees started breaking and bending as something was coming towards us. I’ll never forget what Jason said next, Eddie you better get ready something is coming out and it’s big. Lol when that bull moose appeared and walked out in the open there was no doubt it was a legal bull. With one shot from my 300 the big boy was down.
We were just starting to celebrate and giving high fives when the woods came alive again. I handed Jason my gun and said here there’s another one coming out. Sure enough in just a few seconds another big boy came breaking through the trees. As it came down the bank toward the first downed bull, jason gave the second one a dose of my 300, for his gun was still laying in the bottom of the raft for we had no idea there were 2 bulls. Just that fast we both had our bulls down on the first legal day of the hunt.

By this time it’s getting late in the day, so after rubbing on the two bulls and taking a couple pics it was time to sit up camp before it got dark. So we set up camp across the river from where the bulls lay so we could see and or hear any visiting bears that might come in.

The next morning we worked both bulls up and load them into our trailer raft. After doing some investigating in the willow thicket it was clear that the bulls had been fighting for some time. It honestly looked like a bulldozer had come through the willow thicket where they had been fighting.

Not wanting to tie the the 600 lbs rated trailer raft with 1800 lbs of meat and horns in it, I decided I would ride it down river to the next pick up point. I don’t think we have ever laughed so hard as I tried driving that pile of meat down the river. After a couple hours we finally made it safely to the pick up point and set up camp. We spent the few days there waiting for the plane to come pick up our meat, for the weather had turned and could not get out to us. So we just made the best of it and enjoyed the relaxing on the sand bar and fleshing out our capes. We did watch a nice bull and his cows feed in the river just down stream from camp on a couple different occasions.

After the plane had picked up our trophies and with the pressure off, we continued on down the river to enjoy the rest of our trip. With a couple of wolf tags in my pocket we hoped to get a chance to bag one. With my video camera in had we filmed multiple trophy bulls as we carelessly floated along. We even called one mature bull to within 20 yards of us as we floated along, he was running along side us, for the rut was in full swing. I could go on and on about all the bulls and experiences we had on our 15 day trip but that would be a book and not just a short story. LoL

All in all if you are considering an Alaskan adventure I highly recommend giving Kent a call. Kent is a good Christian man and has personally hunted all the places his clients will be hunting and can give u detailed info on each place you choose to hunt. He only uses only the best pilots and safety is his main concern. He can customize each hunt to fit your needs, and I can assure Kent is a straight shooter.

I have already made planes for another trip next year, set up by Alaskan Quest.
If I can help answer any questions you have or help you in any way give me a call anytime.

Good luck and stay safe.

2017 was the year I fulfilled one of my lifelong dreams.  After years of reading articles and looking into expensive outfitted moose hunts, I came across Kent Kaiser's operation.  After a few phone calls, myself and two buddies were sold on Kent's "do-it-yourself" float hunts for moose.  He set us up with all of the information we needed from hotels to float planes, maps and rafts.  Before we knew it, we were being dropped off on a remote river for 18 days.

The hunt itself was an adventure from start to finish.  We had highs and lows throughout the hunt with weather, moose sightings, fishing and everything in between.

On day six my hunting partner, Larry, was the first to connect on a big bull moose.  The bull was 54" with huge fronts.  Being used to dealing with bull elk every year, we figured a moose wouldn't be that bad, but they are about the size of three bull elk.  Fortunately there were 3 of us and we were only 1/2 mile from the river so we had it all back to camp by 1:00 AM.

We continued hunting for the next few days enjoying moose steaks 3 meals a day.  On day 13, Larry connected again on a big male wolf.  Finally after many close encounters with sub 50" bulls, I was able to harvest a gorgeous 60" bull that far exceeded my expectations.

Overall it was truly a hunt of a lifetime.  The peacefulness of floating the river and camaraderie of our camps at night were as good or better than the trophies we harvested.  Even after 18 days on the river I was sad to hear the engine of our float plane coming to pick us up.  Before we landed in Fairbanks, I had already decided that I would return again, hopefully soon.

Hello my name Is Matt Jones and I’m just a simple HVAC contractor from Apex, North Carolina. I’m a avid outdoorsman , hunter, and fisherman. I went on a drop hunt back in 2011 near Tok AK for moose with no success . I later found Kent Kaiser  I would just like to thank Kent Kaiser from Alaskan Quest for working up a hunting trip to Alaska for Moose!!

We were wanting to go on a float hunt for moose to cover more ground during the season. September 2017 Kent set it up for us to fly out of Fairbanks Ak with his arranged float plane pilot. He also recommended for us to stay at Pikes Water Front Lodge before our hunt a few days to get our much needed supplies for the hunt.
We shuttled into Fairbanks to the stores to get ours supplies, food for the trip and even to get our trailer raft . Fred Meyers Store is the go to place for most of your needs when you come.

The big day!!

We flew out to our planned location thru Kent Kaiser to a Lake on the float Plane. It took two flights because of the weight limits of the planes and it was three of us plus the rafts. After we landed on the lake we then hike to our river to start our big hunt. We were about 150 plus miles north of Fairbanks.

The river was beautiful and slow to float at 2 mph, 45 yards wide and full of beaver. Be prepared for rain and carry water proof, dry duffle bags , only use the best because it will be tested in Alaska. Weigh everything before your trip— IT ADDS UP.
We saw only a few people the whole float hunt trip. You are about as remote as it gets. The people we saw were also hunting. One of them was with a guide in a small Jon Boat and small motor. We only saw a few hunters as we passed along the way on the river of about 120 river miles. The river was high do to recent rains and sometimes it took hours before we could beach our raft. Risk of punctures to the raft must be kept to a minimum don’t worry you will have time. Along the way I spotted some wolves down river about a 1000 yards away!! I got lucky and was able to harvest one beautiful black wolf at 260 yards with my Weatherby Mark V 375 h&h.

The last day of our hunt (We were getting picked up the next day and had been at our last pick up spot for a couple of days.) My hunting buddy had just got picked up with the rafts and his gear in the afternoon. So my Nephew and myself were to stay the night on the sandbar. We were about to prepare supper when a Bull Moose came close to our campsite, WE heard him crashing the trees. About a minute later I saw him and new he was a shooter. I sealed the deal on him at 212 yards with my 375 h&h.

After some quick pictures my nephew and I started to process the moose. We stopped at dark and went back to the campsite for a long night — WE were still in grizzly country and we heard wolves every night including this night. WE ate a quick breakfast and went back to the kill site to finish cutting up the moose. Believe it or not as we finished up and cleaning our hands the float plane landed for the meat pickup. 800 pounds of meat plus pilot was all the Cessna 185 could handle. 5 hours later the plane returned to pick us up on our dream hunt.

Never give up — I only had a couple hours left on the last day. We saw 2 other smaller bulls during our hunt. We arranged thru the float pilot via in Reach phone text to find some one we could donate some of meat to since the processing place was closed on Sunday.

I recommend booking your big plane back to your states 3 to 5 days after your schedule float plane pick up. In case you do get a moose, weather or just want to go shopping for the love ones you miss back home.

I highly Recommend Kent Kaiser with Alaskan quest to schedule your hunting . He will advise you and help arrange pilots , raft rental , and lodge recommendations . Everything went smooth. He has been doing this a long time.
Thanks again Kent my new friend.

My best friend and hunting partner and I have dreamed about a self guided moose hunt in Alaska since we were young, but didn't know where to start. Kent Kaiser made that all possible! We were both successful with two trophy Alaskan moose.

I am a police officer and avid outdoorsman. I have had the pleasure of being on a moose hunting trip with Kent Kaiser, in 2017, including several turkey hunts and we accomplished a Grand Slam.

2017, I was  on a river fly-in float hunt. It was very exciting being in the wilderness around all the animals especially the grizzly bears, and wolves that on several occasions encircled our tent at night. The aurora borealis visited us nightly along with herds of caribou during the day. The beauty of nature was experienced every day as we were nestled in a valley between several gorgeous mountain ranges.

Kent has over 35 years of bush experience, not only in  Alaska, but also all over the world and will give you all the tips you need to enjoy the adventure.

As the hunt progressed, Kent was able to put me in a position to not only see 10 trophy bull moose, but to also take a 63 inch bull in the end. The feeling of accomplishment and exuberance I felt will live with me forever.  He is an outstanding hunter that explores new rivers every year, with keen eyes, and great natural  ability, that he hones year-round staying in fantastic shape. His knowledge of wildlife is immense.

Kent works very hard to see you succeed. He will place you on rivers  that are very secluded, affording you the greatest success.  He gives you a list of what you will need to take on your hunting dream. Do not wait to experience what Kent Kaiser can offer you. If you  need more details, give me a call on my cell.

Kent:

I just wanted to thank you for the Moose Hunting trip north of Fairbanks in 2017. I must say, "it was an amazing trip" and successful as well.

I have previously been moose hunting on 4 different occasions, once in British Columbia and three other times in Quebec.

These moose hunting trips were both fun and exciting, but always came back home "Moose-Less". Certainly, not the case with Kent and Alaskan Quest.

With Kent Kaiser, one goes into the wilderness where the big moose live. It is like moving back in time, camping  amongst the wolves, caribou, bears and of course, moose. No one in my family has ever experienced such a trip and same goes for any of my acquaintances , business or otherwise, that are big game hunters. It is an experience that everyone should experience , at least once, in their life time.

Again Kent, thanks so much for the amazing moose hunting trip and the very nice moose shot by this 72 year old moose hunter with the experience of a life time. Best wishes....

"A 72 year old big game hunter and going strong"

My moose hunting adventure began in September of 2014. I found myself on a wild Alaskan river with my friend Kent Kaiser of Alaskan Quest. Kent and I had spent 10 days together successfully hunting black bear the year before on the same river. In 2014 we had decided that a moose was our primary objective.

Our morning began flying in a small Cessna float plane. We were fortunate to have perfect weather not only for the take-off but for the area hand selected by Kent to land and begin our hunt. Alaskan law prohibits hunting the day you land so we spent our time setting up camp and getting our rafts inflated. Kent and I both had battery operated air pumps that made the task of inflating these big rafts much easier than the hand pump provided by the raft rental company.

The next day we slept in and took our time enjoying the beauty of our little piece of paradise.  Okay, I was still on Atlanta time and Kent was fighting a cold virus. We both decided we were not that angry at the moose so sleeping in just made sense. I don’t think I have ever slept better than when in a tent in Alaska.

Our camp was on a gravel bar with a small 300 foot mountain on the other side of the river. Being able to get to a high visual vantage point is critical to improving your odds of finding that big moose. Kent rowed us across the river and after securing the raft we made our way up the near vertical mountain. We found a place to sit and begin glassing with binoculars the miles of land that spread out in front of us full of ponds. I don’t remember who saw the moose first. I just remember we could see him with the naked eye.  Now the fun began trying to get to that moose before he left the GMU area we were in. Do you know how easy your butt slides down a near vertical mountain? It’s quick too!

I honestly do not remember crossing the river. I do remember the rose hip briars as we were running . Then we came to the tundra. Tundra is primarily bushes 16” tall  that you can walk on IF you land dead center. If you are off center then you will find yourself sprawled out on the surrounding spongy bushes hoping your pockets stay closed. I had to switch back and forth from stepping on the top to stepping between the shrubs. At this point I was out of breath and my heart was thumping load enough I could hear it. Kent and I walked out of a low area and saw nothing but tundra and a small section of pines. Things got interesting after we spoke a little moose cow language. That bull moose came out of the pines about 200 yards away and was looking for love in all the wrong places. All I had was a full frontal shot. Fortunately the 300 win mag and 200 grain bullet did its job on the first shot.  I was fortunate since I did not cut a hair on the next four shots! Kent to this day loves to describe those next four shots. I prefer to change the subject. Kent made his way towards the downed moose. I took a couple of minutes to lower my heart rate and catch my breath. Finally, I started over to Kent and the moose. I remember stopping half way and thinking something was not quite right regarding the heart. I felt light headed but decided it was just all the adrenaline from the excitement. I negotiated the rest of that tundra to find a magnificent 60” bull moose. I managed to get home and decided I better find out why that heart rate was so high. Yep, 90% of the LAD artery was blocked. I will be returning to Alaska this year with Alaskan Quest and clean artery’s, my main objective is a caribou and a wolf. Of course, I won’t pass up an opportunity on a larger moose. It just won’t be shot standing in tundra!

Hey Kent,

So great to hear your voice this morning. I sure appreciate the effort you take to stay in touch. It was divine guidance that brought our paths together. I knew my Septembers would be busy, adventurous, and entertaining flying for you and your clients. Like me, you don't see your business in dollars and cents but truly want to see your clients live their dreams. You see it as an obligation to share with as many people as you can the bounty, beauty, and mystery of the Alaskan wilderness. You and I have been blessed to see the things we get to see flying deep into the outback of Alaska. Everyone should get the chance to feel like they are a thousand miles from anything, inhale the clean cool air, hear the untamed sounds of the wild, and to exist in that very moment...nothing before...nothing after.

Our conversations are always filled with laughter that only comes from true happiness. God bless you, brother and look forward to our moose burger in July!!

With the back breaking, frustration and missed opportunities of what can happen or should I say will happen, the roller coaster of emotions and everything else Alaska will throw at you for a Moose hunting adventure it was nice to have someone with decades of experience to call. This was a life long dream that Kent Kaiser owner of Alaskan Quest put together for us so it was smooth and easy, the best part was his sixth sense to have us fly 15 miles farther up river to start the trip and it paid off with my first Alaskan bull Moose over 60 inches. This 2017 trip was awesome and we enjoyed the true wilds of the last frontier to the fullest, I'm already planning on more trips to Alaska. Thank you Kent.
